The typical attachment of the Curt hitch mount is basically sandwiched between the rear bumper and the sheet metal body flange. When mounting a bike rack, the further rearward the placement of bikes and the ever-increasing weight of bikes (E-Bikes) puts a tremendous bending moment on the hitch mount, and many of them are permanently bent at the outer attachment points to the body. While a 350 lbs tongue weight is rated, that's 350 lbs at point of the hitch receiver, maybe 6 inches rearward. A bike rack with 2 bikes might be 24 inches back and 4 bikes might be 36 inches back. 4 bikes at 30 lbs each, 36 inches back will produce a moment of 4320 lb-in. The standard rating of 350 lbs at 6 inches is only 2100 lb-in.
With our hitch reinforcement kit, you can reinforce the hitch mount at the point of action. Other kits are just bent pieces of steel that "beef-up" the mount at the edges (the cross tube will still rotate). They also require grinding, welding, drilling and painting. Ours bolts right on, can be preloaded by rotating the compression rods (left and right threaded rod end bearings). This thing is stiffer than a (insert your own euphemism.)
One drawback: It only works on vehicles with clear path between the hitch mount and the stock mounting location for the spare tire. If you have no generator and no black tank, it should work (Travatos, no. Solis, yes, with the caveat to please let us know if you have a 59P rear sofa version or a Pocket (needs different versions) Thors won't work as they have a different receiver hitch.
